Antalya tourism faces potential 500 million euro revenue loss

Antalya faces a potential tourism revenue loss of approximately 500 million euros due to a decline in key European markets. According to Recep Yavuz, head of the Antalya City Council Tourism Working Group, four of the region's five most important source markets have seen a downturn during the first eight months of 2026.

Data indicates a significant drop in visitors from major markets including Germany, the United Kingdom, Poland, and the Netherlands. While markets such as Russia, Ukraine, Hungary, and Uzbekistan saw a combined increase of 48,000 visitors, this was offset by a loss of 640,000 visitors across 26 other declining markets, resulting in a net loss of 592,000 people.

The decline is attributed to a breakdown in the perceived value-for-money in Antalya. While European tourism numbers are generally rising, travelers are increasingly choosing competing Mediterranean destinations like Spain, Greece, Italy, and Portugal. Experts suggest that rising costs for services such as airport water, taxi fares, and site entrance fees are impacting the destination's competitiveness.
