Antalya woman sues doctor after aesthetic surgery complication

A woman in Antalya, Turkey, has filed a lawsuit for 5.064 million Turkish Liras following a life-threatening complication from an aesthetic procedure. Gonca Uzhan underwent chin liposuction and endolifting laser treatments at a private clinic in the Muratpaşa district on June 9.

Approximately two hours after the procedure, Uzhan experienced severe swelling, bruising, and bleeding in her neck area, which led to difficulty breathing. She was rushed to Antalya City Hospital, where medical staff determined she had developed a significant hematoma. Because doctors were unable to perform oral intubation due to the pressure on her vocal cords, an emergency tracheostomy was performed to secure her airway.

Uzhan spent two days in intensive care and has since filed a criminal complaint against the performing physician, Dr. A. S. She has also reported the incident to the Antalya Provincial Health Directorate and the Turkish Medical Association. In her lawsuit, she is seeking compensation for medical expenses, loss of earnings, and emotional distress, while also alleging nerve damage and hair loss.
