Anthony Albanese admits podcast appearance was an error
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has admitted that his appearance on the Bush Deep podcast was an error. Speaking to ABC’s 7:30, Albanese stated, “If I had my time again, which you don’t, then I wouldn’t have done that podcast.”
The controversy stems from a July episode featuring host Nikki Osborne. The Prime Minister faced initial criticism for participating in a “marry, date, shag” game involving pop star Kylie Minogue. The situation escalated following claims by Japan’s former ambassador to Australia, Shingo Yamagami, that Albanese made an “insulting” gesture during the podcast.
The gesture occurred while discussing crown melons gifted to the Prime Minister by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in May. During the recording, Osborne made a joke regarding how the melons were delivered, to which Albanese responded with a hand gesture while describing the gift. While the controversy drew political criticism, Japanese Defence Minister Shinjiro Koizumi recently downplayed the matter during a visit to Canberra.
