Anthony Fauci private messages released by US senators

Two Republican senators have released eleven private messages from the professional phone of former epidemiologist Anthony Fauci, dating from January 25 and 26, 2021. The exchanges involved Dr. Rochelle Walensky, then director of the CDC, and Dr. Vivek Murthy.

The messages concern potential risks associated with COVID-19 vaccination for pregnant women. In the communications, Fauci noted that such risks ‘could theoretically’ exist but emphasized a lack of sufficient data to make a definitive statement. He noted that at the time, over 10,000 pregnant women had been vaccinated without reported issues.

While some social media accounts and anti-vaccination groups have characterized these messages as evidence that Fauci intentionally hid information regarding miscarriage risks, the texts show him exercising caution due to data limitations rather than making definitive claims. Fauci later reiterated in a February 2021 interview with the Journal of the American Medical Association that no alerts had been reported regarding pregnant women.
