Senate investigation into Fauci private messages expands

Overview

Republican senators Ron Johnson and Rand Paul have released additional evidence from Dr. Anthony Fauci’s government-issued phone as part of a Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee investigation. The disclosed records include text messages and emails suggesting federal health officials held private concerns regarding COVID-19 vaccines and pregnancy.

In addition to previous disclosures regarding Dr. John Mascola’s notes on first-trimester vaccination risks, new evidence includes an email from Dr. Janet Woodcock, then-Acting Commissioner of the FDA. Woodcock expressed concerns to Dr. Fauci and Dr. Francis Collins regarding reports of adverse events that were difficult to detect through standard surveillance systems and did not fit a distinctive syndrome.

The investigation continues to scrutinize the contrast between these internal communications and Dr. Fauci’s February 2021 public statements, in which he noted the FDA had found ‘no red flags’ regarding pregnant women. Following his testimony, where he reportedly invoked the Fifth Amendment 111 times, the Senate Homeland Security Committee voted 8-5 to hold Dr. Fauci in contempt of Congress.
