Anthony Fauci under Senate probe as new texts reveal vaccine pregnancy concerns
Senators Ron Johnson and Rand Paul have released new evidence from Dr. Anthony Fauci’s government-issued phone as part of a Senate investigation into the federal handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. The disclosed records include text messages and emails suggesting that health officials were privately aware of concerns regarding COVID-19 vaccines and pregnancy.
One text from January 25, 2021, sent by Dr. John Mascola, then-director of the Vaccine Research Center at the NIAID, stated that initial studies avoided vaccination in the first trimester due to possible fever and higher rates of miscarriage. In response, Fauci noted that a cytokine storm or fever following vaccination could “theoretically” be associated with miscarriage. This internal communication contrasts with Fauci’s public comments in February 2021, where he stated the FDA had found “no red flags” regarding pregnant women.
Additionally, an email from Dr. Janet Woodcock, then-Acting Commissioner of the FDA, was revealed. Woodcock expressed concerns to Fauci and Dr. Francis Collins regarding reports of adverse events that did not fit a distinctive syndrome and were difficult to detect through standard surveillance systems. The Senate Homeland Security Committee recently voted 8-5 to hold Fauci in contempt of Congress after he invoked the Fifth Amendment 111 times during testimony.
