Anthony Joshua's driver faces trial for fatal crash in Nigeria

A Nigerian court has heard details regarding a fatal vehicle collision on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State that occurred on December 29, 2025. The accident involved a Lexus SUV carrying former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua and two of his associates, coach Sina Ghami and personal trainer Latif Ayodele. Both Ghami and Ayodele died at the scene.

The driver of the SUV, 46-year-old Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, denies charges of death by dangerous driving and driving without a valid national license. Court testimony indicated that Kayode lost control of the vehicle while attempting to overtake a moving truck, subsequently crashing into a parked lorry. Joshua and his companions were reportedly asleep in the vehicle at the time of the incident.

Separately, Abubakar Adamu, the 35-year-old driver of the stationary lorry, has denied a charge of obstructing the free flow of traffic. The trial has been adjourned until September 10.
