Anthony Joshua fatal accident and related controversies
Overview
In August 2026, former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua faced public criticism following social media footage of him performing dangerous stunts in golf buggies while vacationing in the Dominican Republic. Peers, including Johnny Nelson, described the behavior as “reckless and stupid,” particularly in light of a fatal car accident involving Joshua in Nigeria in December 2025.
That December 2025 accident occurred on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State when a Lexus SUV carrying Joshua and two associates, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, collided with a parked lorry. Both Ghami and Ayodele died at the scene, while Joshua survived with rib injuries.
In September 2026, legal proceedings regarding the crash continued in a Nigerian court. The driver of the SUV, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, denied charges of death by dangerous driving and driving without a valid license. Testimony indicated the crash happened when Kayode lost control while attempting to overtake a truck. Additionally, the driver of the stationary lorry, Abubakar Adamu, denied charges of obstructing the free flow of traffic.
