Anthony Richardson charged with marijuana possession

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. is facing a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge following a traffic stop in Carmel, Indiana, on October 12. The stop was initiated after a police officer noticed the vehicle’s registration was expired and associated with a different vehicle.

According to court documents, the officer reported detecting the odor of marijuana upon approaching Richardson’s Dodge Charger. Richardson reportedly admitted to smoking marijuana inside the vehicle, stating he did so to avoid smoking around his children. A subsequent search of the car uncovered a small mason jar containing a substance believed to be marijuana and a bag of THC-infused gummies, both of which tested positive for THC.

Richardson was not taken to jail but was issued a summons and a citation for the expired registration. He has waived his initial hearing, and a bench trial is currently scheduled for January 4, 2027. The Indianapolis Colts released a statement noting they are aware of the situation and are gathering additional information.
