Anthony Richardson marijuana possession charge

Overview

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. faces a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge following a traffic stop in Carmel, Indiana, on October 12. The stop was initiated by police due to an expired vehicle registration.

During the encounter, an officer reported the odor of marijuana. Richardson reportedly admitted to smoking inside the vehicle to avoid doing so around his children. A search of the vehicle uncovered a small mason jar containing a substance believed to be marijuana and a bag of THC-infused gummies, both of which tested positive for THC.

Richardson was not arrested at the scene but was issued a summons and a citation for the expired registration. Regarding the incident, Richardson stated, “I know my character, God knows my character, my family knows me. So I don’t need to explain anything else.”

Legal experts noted that because the officer did not believe Richardson was operating the vehicle while intoxicated, a summons was issued rather than a physical arrest. A bench trial is currently scheduled for January 4, 2027.
