Anthropic opens Singapore office and signs AI safety MOU

Anthropic has expanded its presence in the Asia-Pacific region by opening its fifth regional office in Singapore. Alongside this expansion, the AI company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Singapore’s Ministry of Digital Development and Information (MDDI).

The agreement focuses on cooperation regarding AI safety, security, model evaluation, and research into responsible AI adoption across both public and private sectors. Anthropic intends to engage in technical exchanges with Singaporean institutions concerning testing standards, incident response, and AI skill development.

Singapore currently ranks second globally in Claude AI usage relative to its population. The technology is already being utilized by several major local entities, including GovTech Singapore for modernizing government systems, the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore for defense exploration, and DBS bank for software development and productivity within its security frameworks. Additionally, the sovereign wealth fund GIC is rolling out the tool across its investment operations.
