Singapore AI industry expansion

Singapore is strengthening its position as a regional artificial intelligence hub through corporate expansion, significant venture capital, and government initiatives. Anthropic has announced plans to open its first Southeast Asian office in Singapore this October, following high regional demand for its Claude AI model.

As of September 2026, Singapore-based AI companies have secured US$13.5 billion in venture capital funding, a figure that significantly exceeds the combined funding of neighboring nations such as Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand. To bolster this ecosystem, the Skills and Workforce Development Agency (SWDA) has introduced over 200 AI courses and a SkillsFuture AI Subscription to provide access to premium tools.

In October 2026, Anthropic officially opened its fifth regional office in Singapore. During this expansion, the company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Singapore’s Ministry of Digital Development and Information (MDDI). This agreement focuses on cooperation regarding AI safety, security, model evaluation, and research into responsible AI adoption. Anthropic plans to engage in technical exchanges with local institutions regarding testing standards, incident response, and skill development.

Singapore currently ranks second globally in Claude AI usage relative to its population. The technology is being utilized by several major local entities, including GovTech Singapore for modernizing government systems, the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore for defense exploration, DBS bank for software development, and the sovereign wealth fund GIC for investment operations.
