Anthropic signs $10 billion compute contract with Volta in Norway

Anthropic has entered a six‑year, $10 billion agreement with Volta Infra Holdings to provide artificial‑intelligence compute capacity in Norway. Volta, a cloud‑infrastructure startup founded in January 2026 by former Brookfield executives, will build a 133‑megawatt data centre in Norway together with Bitdeer Technologies Group, equipping it with NVIDIA’s latest Vera Rubin GPUs under the NVIDIA Partner Cloud program.

The deal makes Volta one of the world’s most significant AI compute providers despite its brief existence. Volta has also raised $300 million in venture funding, valuing the company at $2.4 billion. Anthropic’s contract is part of a broader compute‑securing strategy that already includes large‑scale agreements with Amazon, Google, AMD, SpaceX’s Colossus project and ongoing talks with Meta. Norway was chosen for its cheap, abundant electricity, cold climate that reduces cooling costs, and stable geopolitical environment, factors that have attracted other tech giants to the region as well.
