Shortly thereafter, Anthropic entered a 20-year agreement with Riot Platforms to provide computing capacity at its Rockdale, Texas, campus. This deal, valued at approximately $9.1 billion initially with potential extensions up to $16.1 billion, involves 191 megawatts of IT capacity. Deployment is scheduled in stages, with the first 96 megawatts expected to be operational by December 2027 and full capacity reached by June 2028. To support this, Riot secured $573 million in financing from Morgan Stanley.

This partnership marks a strategic pivot for Riot Platforms from Bitcoin mining toward AI infrastructure services. To fund this transition amid tightening mining margins, Riot sold 4,300 Bitcoin during its second quarter, reducing its treasury from 15,680 BTC to 11,380 BTC. Following the announcement, JPMorgan and Morgan Stanley both raised their price targets for Riot, noting the company is “building momentum.”

To further address compute bottlenecks, Anthropic signed a $35 billion cloud computing agreement with Lambda. Under this arrangement, Lambda will utilize data centers being developed by Hut 8 in Nueces County, Texas, to deploy Nvidia chips for Anthropic. This follows a reported $45 billion agreement with Nscale.
