Antigua and Barbuda Faces US Visa Ban and Threat of EU Travel Restrictions

Antigua and Barbuda has been labeled a “failed state” by U.S. officials, prompting a permanent ban on entry for its citizens. The U.S. Embassy in Bridgetown is now issuing denial letters for visa applications, and applicants may be required to post a refundable cash bond of roughly US$15,000 before they can travel.

The Caribbean nation also faces the possible loss of its visa‑free travel arrangement with the European Union, raising concerns that Antiguans and Barbudans may be effectively barred from both the United States and EU countries.
