Antigua and Barbuda seeks EU meeting to preserve visa‑free travel

Prime Minister Gaston Browne said the Caribbean nation is preparing a high‑level diplomatic effort to keep its visa‑free access to the European Union after the bloc signaled possible withdrawal over concerns about its citizenship‑by‑investment programme. Browne indicated that Antigua and Barbuda will propose enhanced security measures, including an electronic travel authorization system and additional biometric safeguards, arguing that similar programmes in the United States and Canada also face abuse.

The government hopes the engagement will convince EU officials to reconsider and maintain the long‑standing travel arrangement before any deadline later this year.
