Antioquia reports road closures and security updates in Marinilla
Authorities in Antioquia, Colombia, have activated 14 work fronts to manage road emergencies and critical points ahead of the October 12 holiday weekend. While major corridors remain open, travelers should expect restrictions on heavy vehicles, total closures, and controlled passages. Notably, the Concordia–Betulia road remains completely closed at kilometer 10+100 due to an active geological fault. Alternative routes for light vehicles include Salgar–Concordia, Concordia–El Socorro–Betulia, La Usa–Caicedo–Urrao, and Urrao–Altamira–Cangrejo.
In Marinilla, local authorities reported significant security improvements following the ‘Plan 90 Días por la Seguridad’. The report highlights a 59.5% reduction in common theft and over 80 days without homicides. Security operations resulted in more than 200 arrests, the seizure of 20 firearms, and the recovery of 20 motorcycles. Additionally, drug seizures increased by 946% compared to the previous period, including the capture of an individual known as ‘El Chacal,’ allegedly linked to local drug trafficking and the Clan del Golfo.
