Antique gun found in Lake Annecy may solve 2012 quadruple murder

A British tourist has discovered an antique Luger handgun at the bottom of Lake Annecy in France that may provide a breakthrough in a 14-year-old quadruple murder investigation. The corroded weapon was found by a snorkeler while on a family camping holiday, partially buried in sand approximately five feet below the surface.

Forensic experts are currently examining the firearm to determine if it was used in the September 2012 killings near the village of Chevaline. The victims included Saad al-Hilli, his wife Iqbal, her mother Suhaila al-Allaf, and French cyclist Sylvain Mollier. The victims were found near a bullet-scarred BMW in a wooded area. Two young daughters of the al-Hilli family survived the attack, one of whom had hidden in the vehicle's footwell.

The discovery occurred near the campsite where the al-Hilli family had stayed prior to the incident.
