M1 news service resumes broadcasting in Hungary

Following the April 2026 elections and a subsequent restructuring of the Hungarian public media system, the M1 news program (Híradó) resumed broadcasting on August 20, marking the end of a 44-day hiatus. The relaunch coincided with Hungary's national holiday, the Day of the Foundation of the State.

The new news service features a more restrained and factual reporting style compared to previous iterations. The first broadcast was hosted by Máté Kis, with subsequent segments led by presenters such as Antónia Mészáros and Szimonetta Mészáros. The programming includes coverage of the inauguration of President András Baka and the first 100 days of Prime Minister Péter Magyar's government.

As part of the organizational changes, MTVA has been integrated into Duna Médiaszolgáltató. The relaunch also includes coverage of state awards presented at the Parliament, including honors for figures such as György Cserhalmi and Botond Fülöp. The public media intends to provide multi-faceted information, including perspectives from both government and opposition parties.
