Antônio Pitanga honored with upcoming musical and featured in 'Malês' at Prêmio Grande Otelo
A new stage production titled “Pitanga, O Musical” is being created to celebrate the six‑decade career of Brazilian actor Antônio Pitanga. The project was conceived by actor‑producer Jô Santana, with text and direction by director Rodrigo França, and will debut in the second half of 2027 in Pitanga’s hometown of Salvador before touring São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
Pitanga also stars in the feature film “Malês,” which will be broadcast on Canal Brasil as part of a special showcase for the Prêmio Grande Otelo. The award ceremony is scheduled for 4 August at the Theatro Municipal in Rio de Janeiro and will be aired live. “Malês,” a dramatization of the 19th‑century slave revolt in Bahia, has received four nominations at the prize – Best Actress (Camila Pitanga), Best Actor (Antonio Pitanga), Best Costume (Rô Nascimento) and Best Original Score (Antonio Pinto and Barulhista). The showcase includes other finalist films such as “Manas,” “Arame Farpado,” and “Um Lobo Entre Os Cisnes.”
