António Vitorino calls for Spain-Morocco cooperation in Ceuta

António Vitorino, former Director General of the International Organization for Migration and former European Commissioner, emphasizes that managing the migration crisis in Ceuta requires essential cooperation between the Spanish State and Morocco.

Vitorino notes that Ceuta is a vulnerable point under significant pressure, necessitating preventive actions and monitoring to control potential migratory flows. He argues that the recent letter signed by 22 European Union countries regarding the situation in Ceuta lacks sense, as the Schengen Agreement rules already dictate that there is no direct access to continental European territory due to the controls in Ceuta and Melilla.

He highlights the added pressure inherent in managing a Spanish enclave located on the African continent and addresses the political tension in Spain regarding government management and allegations concerning Morocco's role in mass migration entries.
