Antofagasta Region unveils ‘City of Copper’ theme park project and 1,500‑job employment plan
The regional economy minister, Pablo Pomareda, announced the “City of Copper” – a large‑scale futuristic theme park to be built in Calama, Chile. The project aims to diversify the Antofagasta economy by combining a copper‑focused museum, skatepark, food zones and a hub for local entrepreneurs, while creating new public space and employment opportunities for residents.
At the same time, the regional “Mesa Pro Empleo” was launched to coordinate authorities, municipalities and public services in generating 1,500 new jobs. The plan targets mining, construction, public works and housing projects, includes subsidies that cover up to half a minimum wage for hired workers, and seeks to increase women’s participation in the labour market through partnerships with private firms and support for SMEs.
