Antonio Trillanes IV to testify in VP Sara Duterte impeachment trial

Former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV is expected to testify in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte regarding allegations of unexplained wealth. Members of the House prosecution panel, including Representative Joel Chua and Deputy Speaker Paolo Ortega V, noted that Trillanes’s testimony will be vital, particularly concerning Article II of the impeachment articles.

Trillanes previously provided evidence and materials that lawmakers cross-referenced with reports from the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC). During a previous House hearing, AMLC Executive Director Ronel Buenaventura confirmed that certain entries from Trillanes’s materials matched transactions flagged in AMLC reports based on specific dates and amounts. The prosecution team intends to use Trillanes’s extensive history of investigating the Duterte family’s finances to support their case.
