Antony Catalano invests $17.35 million to grow Byron Bay hospitality portfolio

Australian entrepreneur Antony Catalano, 59, who faces multiple charges—including unlawful imprisonment and assault—related to an alleged March attack on his wife, has completed a $17.35 million deal for the commercial component of the Bonovo by Raes luxury resort in Byron Bay. The purchase gives him ownership of the resort’s common areas and ground‑floor retail lots, while the development itself comprises 41 apartments, a rooftop pool, a wellness centre and dining spaces. The financing came from mortgages on other Catalano‑controlled assets, notably the nearby Raes on Wategos resort and surrounding land earmarked for a $29 million family compound. Catalano, who co‑owns Australian Community Media with billionaire Alex Waislitz, has not bought any residential units in the project; tenants already include a men’s clothing store and a wellness studio. Recent bail condition changes have allowed him to travel to Byron Bay, where he lives with his wife and children, and sources say the couple have reconciled.
