ANTT approves R$ 14.33 billion highway concession in Bahia
The National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) has approved the bidding notice for the Rota 2 de Julho concession, covering 653.3 kilometers of the BR-116 and BR-324 highways in Bahia. The 30-year contract involves an estimated R$ 14.33 billion in investments, with R$ 10.52 billion planned for the first eight years. Key infrastructure projects include over 300 kilometers of road duplication, additional lanes, marginal roads, and various pedestrian and bus facilities.
A notable feature of this concession is the implementation of the Free Flow tolling system, which uses electronic identification instead of physical toll plazas. To support this technology, ANTT is also opening a public hearing to propose a unified payment solution. This initiative aims to integrate different federal highway concessionaires into a single portal, allowing drivers to view and pay for all recorded passages in one place. These unified payment tests will be conducted within a regulatory sandbox environment.
