Antucuyen II residents sue Chilean State over housing defects

Nineteen families living in the Antucuyen II housing complex in Castro have filed a lawsuit against the Chilean State due to structural damages in their homes. The properties, which were delivered in November 2024 by the construction company AVIFEL, began experiencing issues during the first winter season.

A report commissioned by the residents attributes the damage to soil capillarity, resulting in moisture and mold. Residents claim that previous attempts by the construction company to fix the issues were merely superficial “patchwork” solutions, such as painting over affected areas.

The Service of Housing and Urbanization (Serviu) and the Ministry of Housing and Urbanism (Minvu) have been formally notified of the legal action, which was entered in March 2026.
