Anwar Ibrahim and Sheikh al-Azhar discuss Islamic studies

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim held a telephone conversation with Sheikh al-Azhar al-Sharif, Professor Dr. Ahmad al-Tayyeb, to discuss the continuity of Islamic missionary efforts (dakwah) and religious studies. The discussion focused on expanding Islamic understanding for the benefit of the global community and strengthening the relationship between Malaysia and Al-Azhar.

Anwar expressed gratitude for the Sheikh's prayers regarding his recent surgery, noting that the procedure was successful and his recovery is progressing well. The Prime Minister also spoke with Mohamed Abdelsalam, Secretary-General of the Council of Muslim Elders, who offered well-wishes for Anwar's health. The leaders discussed fostering moderate, independent, and authoritative Islamic ideas and expressed interest in future meetings in either Cairo or Kuala Lumpur.
