Anwar Ibrahim announces public disclosure of government contracts

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has announced that all government contract procurement details will be made transparent and accessible to the public starting next year. This initiative aims to strengthen governance, increase transparency in the management of public funds, and prevent waste and leakage in national expenditure.

Under the new measure, citizens will be able to access specific information regarding development projects, such as the construction of schools, hospitals, universities, and roads. The disclosed data will include the identities of the winning companies, the total contract value, the reasons for the selection of specific contractors, and the current progress of the work on the ground.

Speaking at the iFUTURE 2026 Leadership Summit, Anwar emphasized that this approach allows local communities to act as monitors for projects in their own areas. By providing this information, the government intends to enable the public to evaluate whether contractors are fulfilling their responsibilities effectively.
