Anwar Ibrahim calls for better governance in Bumiputera and Islamic institutions

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has stated that government-linked institutions mandated to protect the interests of Bumiputera and Muslims must serve as models of good governance. He emphasized that these organizations should uphold high standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability.

Speaking in the Dewan Rakyat, Anwar noted that while many Government-Linked Investment Companies (GLICs) and Government-Linked Companies (GLCs) are tasked with specific communal mandates, such as Tabung Haji for Muslims, this responsibility should not be used as an excuse for management weaknesses. He argued that governance principles should be even stricter for these entities to ensure they do not perform worse than other companies.

The Prime Minister's remarks came during a session addressing the prudent use of GLIC investment funds and their role in national development projects, including housing and public welfare.
