Anwar Ibrahim Stresses Political Stability Ahead of State Elections

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is confronting a series of political challenges as Malaysia prepares for upcoming state elections. He must manage a broad coalition that includes Pakatan Harapan, Barisan Nasional, GPS and GRS, while addressing tensions such as UMNO’s decision to run solo in Johor and a constitutional dispute in Negeri Sembilan. Anwar has said he will not postpone a possible early dissolution of Parliament merely to retain power, emphasizing that stable politics is necessary for economic recovery.

He highlighted the need to focus on reviving the economy, attracting high‑tech investment and strengthening the ringgit. Anwar warned that frequent elections and political uncertainty could deter investors, and he stressed the importance of cooperation with state governments, including those led by opposition parties, to improve the livelihoods of Malaysians.
