Anwar Ibrahim to announce contract medical officer updates in Budget 2027

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is expected to make an announcement regarding contract medical officers during the presentation of Budget 2027.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad stated that ending the contract service system for medical officers has been a primary goal since he returned to lead the Ministry of Health. The ministry aims to resolve the issue of contract appointments by 2028, with plans to offer permanent positions to all medical officers upon the completion of their housemanship training.

Dr Dzulkefly also addressed inquiries regarding recruitment for students from Sabah and Sarawak, noting that while the ministry prioritizes these students, all application requirements remain subject to the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC). The initiative is being managed through a multi-ministry task force dedicated to addressing human resource challenges within the healthcare sector.
