AnyPS5 project enables PS5 game porting to PC and Linux

The AnyPS5 project has made significant technical progress in porting PlayStation 5 (PS5) executables to Linux and Windows systems. Unlike traditional emulators, AnyPS5 functions as a tool for automatic portability by using a relinker to convert executables into native formats for the target system. It utilizes a 32-bit x86 processor architecture and includes a shader recompiler for SPIR-V.

Recent developments show a major leap in performance, with support for PS5 GPU shader instructions increasing from 50% to approximately 96%. Technical documentation indicates that certain titles, such as the 2D game ‘Dreaming Sarah’, can achieve stable 60 fps on mid-range hardware like a GTX 1050 Ti and an i5-7500 processor.

The project is distributed under the GNU GPL v2 license and is intended for interoperability, research, and preservation. It does not include or require proprietary firmware or cryptographic keys. While the technology offers hope to players seeking to bypass console exclusivity, it also raises potential legal concerns regarding Sony’s intellectual property and digital licensing policies.
