Anzoátegui public transport fares increase in northern Venezuela

New public transportation tariffs have taken effect in the northern zone of Anzoátegui state, Venezuela. Following an agreement between transport operators and national authorities, bus fares have increased from Bs 200 to Bs 220, while fixed-route car fares rose from Bs 400 to Bs 440.

In the Guanta municipality, a specific “short fare” remains in place. For buses, the short trip rate is set at Bs 180, and for cars, it is Bs 250. Under the established agreement, operators are permitted to apply a 20% surcharge on Sundays, holidays, and after 9:00 p.m. daily. This pricing structure is designed to remain anchored to a value of $0.25.

Local users have expressed dissatisfaction with the increases, citing the poor condition of the vehicles and the rising cost of living. Some residents reported that monthly commuting expenses for families have reached significant levels relative to local wages.
