Aon report projects APAC medical cost growth to slow to 9.7% in 2027

Aon plc has released its 2027 Global Medical Trend Rates Report, projecting that medical cost growth in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region will slow to 9.7% in 2027, down from 11.3% in 2026. Despite this deceleration, medical cost growth is expected to continue significantly outpacing the APAC general inflation forecast of 2.5%.

On a global scale, the medical trend rate is projected to decrease from 9.8% in 2026 to 9.0% in 2027. The report identifies cardiovascular disease, ENT/lung disorders, and cancer as the primary drivers of medical claims.

Regional trends vary across APAC. The overall decline is largely driven by projected decreases in China and India, which are expected to see medical trend rates drop by 1.8 and 1.4 percentage points, respectively. Other markets, including Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam, are also expected to see moderating rates, though five of these markets are still projected to maintain double-digit trend rates in 2027.
