Aon report projects rising medical costs for 2027
Aon’s 2027 Global Medical Trend Rates Report indicates that corporate medical plan costs in Mexico are projected to increase by 13.7% next year. While this represents a moderation from the 14.8% trend anticipated for 2026, healthcare spending continues to outpace the estimated general inflation rate of 3.4%.
Mexico is identified as the second-largest medical market in Latin America and the Caribbean within the report. The country is expected to help contain regional growth, as its projected medical trend shows a 1.13 percentage point decrease compared to Brazil, which projects an increase of 1.35%.
Globally, trends such as catastrophic and complex claims—defined as claims of $100,000 or more—have seen a 12.9% year-over-year increase. Additionally, specialty pharmacy costs remain a dominant driver, with pharmacy costs rising by 11% in 2025 and similar growth projected through 2027.
