Apara Ekadashi 2026: Date, Rituals and Timing for Vishnu Worship
Apara Ekadashi, the first Ekadashi of the month of Jyestha, falls on 13 May 2026 (Wednesday). According to the Vedic calendar the Ekadashi period begins on 12 May at 2:52 PM, but the fast is observed on 13 May, with the parana (break) scheduled for 14 May.
Worship is advised during Brahma Muhurta (04:08‑04:50 AM) and other auspicious windows such as the Labh‑Unnati (05:32‑07:13 AM) and Amrit‑Sarvottam (07:13‑08:55 AM) periods. Devotees should bathe early, wear yellow, set a clean cloth, light a ghee lamp before a Vishnu image, and chant the Vishnu Sahasranama. Food restrictions include avoiding grains, beans, garlic, onions, meat, fish, egg and certain vegetables; only fruits, water or light milk are permitted if one chooses to eat.
The observance is believed to bring spiritual merit, relief from sins, and material prosperity. Practical steps include offering flowers, incense, and sweets, reciting the Apara Ekadashi story, and distributing prasad to family members.
