APC intensifies 2027 election preparations through defections and new structures

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is intensifying its political mobilization and structural organization ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria. In Kano State, the party has seen a significant influx of opposition members, including Senator Rufa’i Sani Hanga, who was the sole opposition senator from the state. This defection, accompanied by thousands of supporters, has effectively erased the opposition's senatorial foothold in Kano, giving the APC control of all three senatorial seats.

In addition to defections, the APC is building new campaign structures. The party has appointed over 200 members to its New Media Committee to manage digital outreach and voter engagement. Support groups, such as the Tinubu Support Group (TSG), have also inaugurated new national and state structures to drive grassroots mobilization. In Kaduna, the APC Consensus Aspirants Forum has pledged to support President Bola Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani, prioritizing party unity over individual ambitions.

While the party gains momentum in several regions, it faces internal challenges in Bauchi State, where mass resignations and unresolved primary disputes threaten its prospects. Meanwhile, administration supporters defend the Renewed Hope Agenda, citing economic reforms and infrastructure projects as key drivers for continued leadership.
