APC leadership frozen by Sierra Leone High Court injunction

A High Court in Freetown has issued an interim injunction against the All People’s Congress (APC) leadership, effectively freezing the operational authority of its current executive members. The ruling specifically restrains Osman Foday Yansaneh and Lansana Dumbuya from performing their duties as National Chairman and National Secretary General, respectively.

The injunction prohibits the individuals from holding executive meetings, passing resolutions, or superintending the day-to-day affairs of the party. This legal action follows a challenge regarding the legality of recent leadership decisions and the expiration of a tenure extension previously granted by the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC).

The court order also strikes out earlier directives from the PPRC that had allowed the defendants to remain at the helm of the party. The injunction will remain in effect until the court hears and determines the substantive constitutional matters. The court warned that any disobedience of the order could result in contempt proceedings, including potential imprisonment or fines.
