Apennine regions in Emilia-Romagna undergo economic transformation
The economy of the Apennine regions in Emilia-Romagna is undergoing a significant transformation, shifting from marginal areas to vital economic and social infrastructures. In the Bolognese Apennines alone, the economic system comprises over 11,000 local units and approximately 30,000 employees, generating a value added exceeding 3.1 billion euros.
Research presented by the Emilia Chamber of Commerce highlights the demographic and social landscape of the Reggio Apennines, where 7,263 young people aged 18 to 35 reside. This group represents 17% of the mountain population. The study examines youth sentiments regarding education, employment expectations, and trust in local institutions to help public administrations better support territorial rooting.
To combat depopulation and boost mountain territories, the Emilia-Romagna Region has allocated nearly 100 million euros. This funding supports strategies such as the STAMI (Territorial Strategies for Mountain and Internal Areas) and promotes sectors like sustainable tourism, food and wine, and business services. Community cooperatives also play a role, managing local shops and services to sustain the regional economy.
