Benevento area experiences mild magnitude‑3.3 earthquake

On 12 July 2026 at 04:56 local time, the Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) recorded a magnitude 3.3 earthquake centered about one kilometre from the town of Apice in the province of Benevento. The hypocentre was 13 km deep. The tremor was felt across a wide area of the Sannio, including municipalities such as Sant’Arcangelo Trimonte, Paduli, Calvi, San Giorgio del Sannio, San Nazzaro and San Martino Sannita. Although the shaking was perceptible, the event was of low intensity and no damage or injuries were reported. Authorities continue to monitor the sequence and update the seismic hazard maps for the region.
