Apple AirPods 5 launch features design updates and low repairability scores

Apple has released the AirPods 5, which are available in a standard model and an elevated variant featuring a wireless charging case, swipe volume controls, and open-ear active noise cancellation. The higher-end model is priced at Rs 17,900, representing a small price gap of Rs 3,000 from the standard version.

Despite improvements in design and ergonomics, repairability remains a significant challenge. Teardowns by iFixit assigned the AirPods 5 a repairability score of 2 out of 10. While this is an improvement over the previous model, which scored 0 out of 10, the devices remain difficult to service. iFixit noted that Apple may be failing to comply with right-to-repair regulations in several US states, such as Oregon.
