Apple AirPods 5 and Pro 3 comparison and firmware update
Apple has expanded its audio lineup with the introduction of the AirPods 5 and the flagship AirPods Pro 3. A key distinction between the two models is the design: the AirPods 5 utilize an open-ear architecture, while the AirPods Pro 3 feature an in-ear design with silicone tips for superior physical isolation.
While the AirPods 5 now include active noise cancellation (ANC), the AirPods Pro 3 offer significantly more powerful noise suppression, reported to be up to three times more effective. The Pro 3 also include advanced health features such as heart rate monitoring and specialized hearing health tools, which are absent in the standard AirPods 5. Battery life also varies, with the Pro 3 providing up to 8 hours of single-use duration compared to 4 to 5 hours for the AirPods 5.
Additionally, Apple has released a new beta firmware (build 9B5042a) compatible with several models, including the AirPods Pro 2 and 3, AirPods 4 and 5, and AirPods Max 2. This update is available to developers and public beta testers to facilitate testing and bug fixes.
