Apple and LG collaborate on smart home device lineup

Apple and LG are reportedly collaborating to develop a range of smart home devices, which may be officially introduced in the near future. Leaked renders and specifications suggest the lineup includes an LG Smart Deadbolt Lock featuring automatic unlocking, tap-to-unlock capabilities, and mechanical key backups. Other anticipated devices include an LG Smart Thermostat with humidity and brightness settings, and an LG Temperature Sensor with a magnetic backing.

Beyond these initial items, reports indicate the companies may also be working on video doorbells, indoor and outdoor cameras, and spotlight cameras, likely marketed under the LG brand.

To enhance the user experience within the Apple ecosystem, new software features are being developed. These include ‘Proximity Control,’ which allows users to access device controls via iPhone shortcuts—potentially appearing in the Dynamic Island—without manually opening the Home app. Additionally, the collaboration aims to simplify device setup through Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, allowing for HomeKit integration before the device is even powered on.
