Apple and LG smart home collaboration

Overview

Apple and LG Electronics are reportedly collaborating to develop a suite of smart home accessories intended to bolster the Apple Home ecosystem. The planned lineup, which will be sold under the LG brand, includes a smart video doorbell, a smart thermostat, a smart deadbolt lock, a temperature sensor, and three security cameras (indoor, outdoor, and floodlight/spotlight models).

Technical details indicate the devices will support Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Thread, and Matter protocols. Specific features include Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology for automatic unlocking on the smart lock and a 60GHz radar module for human presence detection on the thermostat.

Further reports suggest the integration of new software features such as ‘Proximity Control’ via iPhone shortcuts and the use of Near Field Communication (NFC) to simplify device setup. These accessories are expected to integrate with an upcoming Apple smart home hub.
