Apple and Microsoft increase device prices as AI‑driven chip costs surge

Apple announced price hikes for its iPad and MacBook lines, with increases of up to 42% (as much as 1 lakh rupees) in India and other markets. The company said the higher costs of chips, memory and other components – exacerbated by demand from artificial‑intelligence data centres – forced the adjustments, while the iPhone price remained unchanged.

Microsoft disclosed that Xbox Series S and Series X consoles will cost $100‑$150 more (around 10‑14 k rupees) from 1 August, citing a similar rise in memory and storage chip prices driven by AI workloads. The price rise coincides with expected demand spikes around the upcoming GTA VI launch and ongoing supply pressures.
