Apple and OpenAI clash in court over alleged trade‑secret theft

Apple sued OpenAI in San Jose, California, accusing the AI developer of stealing trade secrets through more than 400 former Apple employees as it pursues its own consumer‑hardware project. OpenAI responded with a 28‑page motion to dismiss, calling the complaint baseless and presenting communications that it says show Apple reaching out to the former staff.

Federal judge Edward Davila is set to hear arguments on October 1. Despite the dispute, the companies remain partners, with ChatGPT integrated into Apple products, and a rumored screen‑less smart speaker, designed with Jony Ive’s LoveFrom studio, is expected to be unveiled soon.
