Apple announces AI-powered health app updates

Apple has announced a redesigned health application that utilizes Apple Intelligence to provide personalized insights by analyzing user data. The system integrates information from Apple smartwatches and smartphones, covering metrics such as heart health, sleep, physical activity, metabolic health, hearing, and nutrition.

Key features include a new ‘Longevity’ section featuring a ‘Health Age’ metric, which compares a user’s physiological indicators—such as resting heart rate, sleep patterns, heart rate variability, and VO2 max—against their chronological age. Users can also manually add laboratory results, including cholesterol and blood glucose tests.

A new ‘Readiness’ feature will analyze recent activity and sleep data to advise users on whether to rest, reduce intensity, or continue with their planned activities. Additionally, the company is introducing AI-driven physical assessments that use smartphone cameras and watches to evaluate flexibility, strength, balance, and movement patterns. Apple stated that these assessments are processed on-device to ensure privacy, with images not being recorded, stored, or shared. The updated app will launch in English later this year, with additional languages to follow.
