Apple announces AirPods 5 with improved ANC and Live Translation

Apple has announced the AirPods 5, introducing significant upgrades to its entry-level wireless earbud lineup. The new models feature an improved open-ear design with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) that is reportedly up to 50 percent more effective than the previous AirPods 4 with ANC.

Key technological advancements include integration with Siri AI and Apple Intelligence, enabling hands-free interactions such as responding to Siri via head gestures (nodding or shaking). A standout feature is Live Translation, which allows users to hear real-time translations of conversations through the earbuds when paired with a compatible iPhone.

The lineup consists of two versions: a standard model and a version featuring a Wireless Charging Case. The premium model includes additional features such as on-stem volume control via swipes, improved battery life, and a built-in speaker for the Find My service. Both models carry an IP57 rating for dust, sweat, and water resistance.

Pricing starts at $129 for the base model and $149 for the wireless charging version in the United States. Pre-orders are currently available, with retail availability beginning September 18.
