Apple iPhone Duo launches globally amid reports of screen failures
Apple has officially released its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, in over 70 countries. The device features a 7.6-inch inner display and a titanium chassis, with prices starting at approximately $1,999 in the United States. Due to exceptionally high demand, many pre-order customers in various regions, including the US and Turkey, have seen delivery dates pushed back to late January.
Despite the highly anticipated launch, numerous reports have emerged from early users regarding hardware issues. Multiple customers in Australia, Vietnam, and other regions have reported internal screen cracks and abnormal bright lines appearing near the hinge area, sometimes after only a few hours of use or minimal folding. In response to these reports, Apple is reportedly collecting faulty units for technical analysis.
To address potential screen wear, Apple has introduced a replaceable matte coating layer available for $19 for customers with AppleCare+. While some experts have praised the device's multitasking capabilities and refined hardware, others have expressed caution regarding its first-generation durability. In markets like Vietnam and Indonesia, high demand has also led to significant price markups by unauthorized resellers.
