Apple iPhone 18 Pro models face $250‑$300 price hike amid component cost surge
Apple warned that supply‑chain constraints will affect its iPhone, iPad and Mac lines, citing shortages of key components from TSMC and a sharp rise in memory‑chip prices. CEO Tim Cook described the memory‑chip price surge as a “century flood.”
Analysts, led by GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu, estimate that the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max could be $250‑$300 more expensive than the current iPhone 17 Pro models, pushing the U.S. base price to about $1,399 for the Pro and $1,499 for the Pro Max. The price pressure is driven by higher costs for the 2 nm A20 Pro processor, DRAM and NAND memory, and a new variable‑aperture camera module.
The market reacted sharply: Apple’s shares fell 7‑10% in after‑hours trading, erasing up to $500 billion of market value. Apple plans to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and its first foldable iPhone Ultra in a September 2026 event, with pre‑orders and shipments slated for mid‑September.
